About Group Testing
You might be asking, “How is this possible since the Woodcock is an individually administered achievement test?”
The total test administration takes a little over an hour. By administering the fluency tests in a small group testing time is shortened considerably and we can then take students individually to complete the other portions of the test. In no way is the student performance compromised by this practice which is allowed under the testing guidelines. We’ve had very good feedback from parents and students who have participated in the past.
We’ve done this for Montessori schools and several other homeschool groups in other areas; it works well for students who have no particular learning issues and for parents who do not require a long consultation. Parents enjoy a significant financial savings over an individual test administration and your student completes their testing in one stress-free morning or afternoon session.
The scores derived from this test experience are exactly the same as with any other Woodcock Administration. Wide range tests, like the Woodcock provide more accurate grade equivalencies, especially in reading, to help you plan next year’s curriculum.
The major difference is that we give only the very briefest consultation about the test scores. I think the one characteristic of my personal test administration is the amount of time I spend with the parent going over scores and discussing curriculum. That time is shortened significantly with this type of appointment. (One of my associates makes sure I stay on schedule!)
To recap, those who might want to consider this option would be those who:
- Want to get their testing done in one morning or afternoon
- Do not require a long consultation about curriculum (though you may choose to have one at a later time)
- Have children who are doing well and have no special educational concerns
- Have children who excel in reading at a young age and need more accurate reading scores to choose material at the right level
- Have multiple children and want a reduced fee for the Woodcock-Johnson test
- Have taken the Woodcock before and want another set of scores to compare with but do not need the full consultation.
The cost is $70 per test (rather than the usual $90 for a basic test administration).
